DC

no, not the district of columbia…the Doctor of Chiropractic.

i’ve heard horror stories and i’ve heard miracle stories. it’s hard to separate the fact from fiction. the horror stories, however, usually come from people who just flipped through the yellow pages and rolled some dice. the other argument: “once they start adjusting you, you have to keep going back.” hmmm…i don’t know what’s so bad about that. :\ i have to keep going back to the dentist, too.

so today was my appointment to look at my x-rays…sure enough, i got issues. the explanation was very good. and it was good to see visual evidence of “jacked-up-ness” — especially where i hurt the most.

it’s funny cos the DC is small — maybe 5′5″ … but just man-handled me… i was popping left and right. and it felt soooo nice.

so back to work. trying to drink lots of water, not climb for 2 days, and trying to sit up straight at my desk.

i gotta tell you — it felt so nice, i think i may want to go back frequently. (gasp!)

local band goes global

personally, i think “Live Earth” is just a big sham. in reality it makes no sense, having people drive their cars to a large gathering where water will be consumed in plastic bottles and huge amounts of waste will be collected, polluting major areas of the earth.

that being said, this is a freakin awesome story:

Antarctica Cements Act for Gore’s Live Earth

In an effort to fulfill his promise of a concert on every continent for his “Live Earth” event on July 7 to 8, Al Gore approached the British Antarctic Survey in February to explore the possibility of flying a band in to its

Rothera Research Station in Antarctica.

No, he was told, July is mid-winter in Antarctica, and no planes or boats can get in or out.

But all was not lost. BAS officials told Gore that a band was already in place on the South Pole. BAS press representative Linda Capper told blogger Tim Slagle, “We have a house band — five of our science team. They are very good indie rock-folk fusion. The remaining 17 will be the audience on location.”

They’ve never played in front of an audience. To make matters worse, the band, named after a Greenlandic word for “summit,” will be playing outside on the ice, where temperatures could be as low as minus ten degrees Celsius. One of their colleagues will film the performance for broadcast on TV and the Internet.

stupid white ball

i hit a golf ball today — for the first time in 8 months.

last year, i played decently well — i shot a personal low 83 in Oceanside followed by an 84 at Rancho Bernardo Inn. Things were well. I hung out with my dad a lot, and I enjoyed playing.

Then I decided to head out on my own … no more lessons … no more 2x a week at the range. Between all that practice and how expensive it is just to play on the weekend, it was blowing a hole in my pocketbook.

Then I started to suck. Really suck. I’d go out, blow $50-60 a round to play and spend half my time furious at the little white ball. It wouldn’t go where I was telling it to. Nothing felt right and I was getting frustrated. Thankfully, about the same time I found a sport that cost $0. So I took some time off.

Last weekend, I went to lunch with my grandparents at Aviara. I arrived early with Erin and we stood out on the back porch and watched some golfers come in on 18. I decided maybe I should go out to the range and hit some balls.

$15 later (here we go again…), balls were whizzing in every direction — and none of them in the direction intended…and usually 30-50 yards shorter than what a 5th grader could hit.

Screw it. Stupid white ball.

classy

i try not to make a point of criticizing other people’s fashion sense. aside from how petty such a practice is, i could never claim to have a decent sense of fashion myself. however, there’s something about wearing socks with your sandals…in Nordstrom’s…that’s pretty funny.
